Hello my name is Thomas Murray. Live in Scotland, at latitude 56 degrees 24 minutes north. The reason I decided to set up this website, is because I disagree with a Wikipedia policy; they put verifiability above truth. For example, previously in Wikipedia, the minimum distance between Ireland (Northern) and Scotland was stated to be 30 kilometres (just under 19 international miles). The source given was an atlas from 1999. Anyone using Google Earth, can fairly quickly determine that the minimum distance is 20 km (under 13 miles). However I was not allowed to correct this error in Wikipedia, as it would be deemed "original research". Now it states "21 km" "13 miles", from an acceptable source for Wikipedia. This is much more accurate, but it should be 20 km. There will very likely, be more such examples in Wikipedia. Having edited a number of articles in Wikipedia, I am totally frustrated that sometimes one is not allowed put truthful facts in Wikipedia, due to their obsession their with so called verifiable sources, which in some cases have untrue "facts".
In my opinion, according to Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland 1:2,500 digital mapping, and Ordnance Survey Great Britain 1:2,500 digital mapping, furthermore personally calculated both in the GRS80 ellipsoid and Airy 1830 ellipsoid, with elevation factors personally calculated using the Earth's radius of curvature at a specific azimuth, the closest mainland Mean High Water / Mean High Water Springs distance to the closest integer metre is 20.148 km or 12.519 miles or 10.879 nautical miles. For more detail see my Scotland, Ireland distance page, a subpage which appears in a drop-down menu below the above Circumferences of Latitudes page, when a cursor is placed on it.

My website is obviously very basic, as I know little about these sort of matters. However I hope the information contained in it, more than makes up for the lack of a professional website. Incidentally, click on the blue text for links to other websites, except of course the website's title.
